Three's Company – MCBC in collaboration with DanceWest and GEM City Ballet , Spring 2011

Chicago, Illinois

Artistic directors from three regional companies founded the collaboration Three’s Company
which provides experiences for young dancers to perform, meet and network with fellow dancers
in different cities. This annual production also offers local communities an opportunity to enjoy
regional companies and their choreography and varying styles – from classical to contemporary.
The MCBC and Ballet Esprit of Cincinnati founded Three’s Company in 2002 and later were
joined by Dayton, Ohio-based Gem City Ballet. DanceWest of Naperville, Illinois, replaced Ballet
Esprit in 2008.


Seasons of Spring , Saturday, March 26

In 2011, MCBC’s annual Seasons of Spring production will feature a mixed repertoire including
Cinderella Fairies and Degas Impressions an original ballet by MCBC’s Artistic Director Mary
Celeste Geiger that received the “Spirit of Degas Award for Excellence” at the Detroit Institute of
Arts in 2002. This year’s program will also feature new choreography Les Billets Doux (Love
Letters ) and On Love from Eliska Mayer whose work in the field of acting, dance, theater design,
began at the National Theater, in Prague, Czech Republic, and has continued for over 40 years in
Europe and the U.S.


MCBC to Perform at Regional Dance America Mid-States Ballet Festival, Thursday, Friday, and
Saturday, May 19, 20 and 21

Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The MCBC will participate in Regional Dance America (RMA) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at one
of its annual four regional festivals in 2011. The festival provides educational and performing
opportunities for students with a serious commitment to their arts education and provides
networking opportunities for directors and teachers from across the United States. A total of over
three thousand dancers and dance professionals will attend the festivals in 2011 with three
performances showcasing the member companies of each region. Festivals include master
classes taught daily by renowned dance instructors.

The MCBC is a non-profit organization that has produced superior ballet productions since 1989.
It is the professional affiliate company of the Geiger Classic Ballet Academy (GCBA) located in
Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. At GCBA, dancers from eight to 17 years of age undergo a traditional,
highly disciplined study of ballet instruction. GCBA director Mary Celeste Geiger established the
school in 1985 and has also led MCBC as its artistic director since the company’s founding. The
MCBC currently boasts a company of over 30 dancers and each year continues to bring the
artistry of ballet and the excellence of their productions to metro Detroit audiences.

Michigan Classic Ballet Company. Tickets for MCBC's production of The Nutcracker now on sale.


MCBC Presents Nutcracker Knowledge Friday, December 3

Mercy Auditorium, Farmington Hills, Michigan

Nutcracker Knowledge is a free educational outreach program offered annually by the MCBC and
was designed specifically for 3rd through 8th grade classes. Students learn about the history of
The Nutcracker , the exciting tradition of classical ballet and participate in an enriching,
interactive theatre experience for young people. The one-hour program includes a shortened
version of The Nutcracker performed by MCBC dancers to music by 19th-century Russian
composer Peter Tchaikovsky. A lecturer will guide children through a live-theater event and offer
opportunities for students to participate in creative movement demonstrations. A teachers’
curriculum guide is also available to participating schools. This year, students from Detroit,
Highland, Pontiac, and Shelby public elementary schools will attend performances of the MCBC’s
Nutcracker Knowledge.


The Nutcracker: A Performance in Two Acts, Saturday and Sunday, December 4 and 5

In its annual full-length production of The Nutcracker , the MCBC presents this classic holiday
ballet choreographed by MCBC artistic director Mary Celeste Geiger. Join the MCBC for a
magical holiday adventure where toys are transformed into whimsical beings, snowflakes
become beautiful dancing maidens, and we travel to the Land of Sweets where the Sugar Plum
Fairy awaits. MCBC dancers will perform this year’s Nutcracker with guest principal dancers
Cara Marie Gary and Brazilian sensation Irlan Silva from the ABT II, the affiliate junior company of
New York City’s American Ballet Theater. Public performances are on Saturday, Dec. 4, at 11 a.
m. and 3:30 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 5. at 3 p.m. Tickets prices are $20 for adults and $15 for
